The region of Saranda, located at the southern coast, represents more than 2000 years of history and is enriched with very rare values of cultural and archeological for the Albanian and even European heritage.
In antiquity, the city served as an entry gateway for the city of Finiqi, and eventually as a gateway for the whole region. This very rich heritage interlaced with the beauty of the nature and its natural coast makes the most important part of the attractively. This coastal city has a very diverse ethnic and regional composition.
Saranda has a typical Mediterranean climate, with the largest number of sunny days, even in Europe, more than 270 days. The city is only 30 minutes away from the Greek island, Corfu.
One of the main attractions of Saranda are the remains of the ancient city of Butrint. It is 15 km from Saranda, and from the 1992 is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It was mentioned for the first time by HEKATEU, at the end of VI century B.C. In the antiquity was in the tribe of the Chaonians, and later in the Autonomous Republic of Epirus.
One of the most important things to see is the theatre with a capacity of 1500 places. It was build in IV – III century B.C and is situated at the south part of the Akropoli.
The Basilica of Butrint built at the end of the VI century B.C, and PUSI I NIMFAVE – Nympfs, built from VI to I century B.C, with a depth of 5 meters, are situated near the Lions Gate (Porta e Luaneve)

THE LEKURSI CASTLE
It’s a XVI century structure. It is believed from the scientists that the castle was built during the year 1537 in the times where the Great Sultan Suleiman attacked Corfu, and he needed the Castle in order to control Saranda and the routes that connect Saranda with Butrint.
Is an ancient place known with the name of FOINIKE, as the center of Kaonia, which is believed that it may have been built as a city in the V century B.C.
BLUE EYE – SYRI I KALTER
Is the largest and the most interesting out of the 18 water springs which surface from the earth. It is announced nature monument. Its oval form, similar with an eye, comes from the land, very dark in the middle and blue at the sides. The spring is reported to be more than 45 meters deep.
THE KSAMIL ISLANDS – ISHUJT E KSAMILIT
There are four small islands with a surface of 9 ha near the village of Ksamil. These islands are covered with plants and bushes which are green all the time. At the rocky islands of Ksamil are situated the most beautiful beaches of the whole coast.
